What Is It?
This condition results when nerves that transmit messages to and from the brain and spinal cord from and to the rest of the body are diseased or damaged. Those nerves begin to die off due to a lack of oxygen, blood flow and circulation to these nerves.
Peripheral neuropathy is most commonly seen in the diabetic population. However, there are approximately 100 different causes of neuropathy. Some other causes include chemotherapy and cholesterol-lowering drugs.
Common Symptoms of Peripheral Neuropathy
- Numbness or tingling
- Burning sensation in feet, legs, hands & arms

Our Multi-Pronged
Approach to Care
At 360 Chiropractic & Wellness, we have developed a highly effective system for addressing peripheral neuropathy. Our program, which typically takes three months, has several parts that can help provide ongoing relief for our patients.
In-office
As peripheral neuropathy usually has a vascular component, the first set of therapies we use are created to boost nitric oxide production, nerve re-education, angiogenesis, and increase circulation to the extremities.
We provide manual manipulation using some adjusting. In addition, we have exercises in the office. Vibration therapy or pressure wave therapy is also used to stimulate the nerve endings.
Homecare
You will be given two pieces of medical equipment to use at home. One of those is an Anodyne Boot that you wear that uses red light therapy to help stimulate nitric oxide production. Using the boot, the nerves can get more circulation to revitalize those nerve endings. That helps to facilitate the healing process.
The ReBuilder® is another piece of equipment that restores nerves to their normal state. An increase in muscle mass and a reduction in pain are two other benefits of this system.
Nutrition
Nutrition is a significant portion of homecare. We provide a specific protocol for our neuropathy patients because what you put in your body is essential to help rebuild and reestablish the nerve function.
What to Expect
We will perform a thorough evaluation, including extensive testing, to determine whether or not you have true peripheral neuropathy. It’s crucial to make an accurate diagnosis so we can provide proper treatment. Many people have nerve issues that are more disc-related where it comes from the low back. There are different variables that we have to rule out.
FAQ
If you experience any symptoms of peripheral neuropathy, please contact our office for an evaluation. The earlier you catch it, the easier it is to take care of.
Some people have 20% sensory loss, which is easy to manage; if you have 50% sensory loss, we can help you as well. However, if you have 85% or more sensory loss in your extremities, there’s a chance we might not be able to help. The bottom line is you don’t want to put off care because if you wait too long, you won’t be able to get help.
The good news is that we see a 95-98% success rate (a complete reversal of symptoms) for those patients who get in for treatment before reaching that 85% sensory loss.
Can peripheral neuropathy be treated with medicine?
No. Medication may make the symptoms more manageable, but when the dose wears off, people may have to increase the dosage or move on to heavier-duty medications.
Will it just improve on its own?
No, if left untreated, it continuously gets worse. Some people will have to undergo amputation. That’s because if the nerve supply is damaged over time, the tissues don’t survive and gangrene can set in and abscesses begin to form on the feet.
